Already the leader in high-end MTB on the French market, the LAPIERRE brand is conquering the rest of the world.
Optimizing the weight of our bikes is still a major goal for us. Even if our bikes are some of the lightest on the market, we refuse to take useless risks that could compromise the reliability of our bikes.

HISTORY

In 1946, Gaston Lapierre started a small bicycle business in Dijon, France (Côte-d’Or – Burgundy), quickly finding success in an industry that was experiencing rapid growth in general.
The management was passed on to his son, Jacky Lapierre in 1960.
In 1972, a new factory was constructed in the industrial zone of Dijon to accommodate increased production numbers. In addition to the production plant, a new building was also dedicated to spare parts sales, complete with a new showroom for the bike collection. The Lapierre brand thrives and becomes a reference among bike specialists.

LEADERSHIP IN MTB

In the middle of the 80s, by being one of the few European companies to anticipate the MTB phenomenon, Lapierre quickly positioned itself as a leader of this market. Lapierre has since sponsored several competitive MTB teams who have won titles at all levels since the start of sponsoring activities in 1988.
In January 1993, Accell Group (Netherlands) announced its intentions to purchase 33% of Lapierre’s shares.
By 1996, the partnership proved to be successful, and in April 1996, the Lapierre family decided to sell the rest of their shares. At this time, Gilles Lapierre, son of Jacky, took control of the company as Managing Director. From this year on, the company would experience consistent and unprecedented growth.

LAPIERRE TEAM

Lapierre is very proud to be associated with a few prestigious teams that supports our R&D. One of the most popular teams that is widely known is the FDJ Team
Team Groupama – FDJ THE SPONSORED TEAM
A partnership that has taken Lapierre bikes to stage wins on the Tour de France, Vuelta and Giro; that took Thibaut Pinot and his Lapierre Aircode to the 3rd place and best young rider in 2014’s Tour de France; that took Francis Mourey to be 8 times French cyclocross champion. A partnership that has more wins left in it yet!
A partnership that has endured 17 years, one of the longest lasting partnerships in professional cycling. A partnership with two men at its origin, Gilles Lapierre and Marc Madiot. Both proud of their French heritage. A shared work on product development, testing, improvement, a focus on technology to help win races. A ceaseless work resulting in innovations such as the SAT on the Pulsium endurance model and the aerodynamic features on the Aircode and Aerostorm.
In 2018, the FDJ team became the Team Groupama – FDJ. A new partnership between both sponsors that signs the beginning of a great cycling adventure.

LAPIERRE TECHNOLOGY

Road & MTB (Technology Material)

The material used as the base for your frame affects it’s quality and performance. We work round the clock to perfect our specialist aluminum and carbon layups.
Aluminium. Working with specialist aluminium providers we have exclusive access to our high end aluminium, Supreme 6. 12% more resistant and 1.5% lighter than the widely used aluminium 7005, it has an exceptional longevity and is available on certain select models.
Carbon fibre is both a science and an art – and the result is black magic. We built our first carbon frames in 2003, and well over a decade of hardwon specialist knowledge sets us apart. We still build them by hand. One piece may look like another, but carbon is incredibly adaptable. It can bend and absorb vibration, be extremely stiff, or anything in between. Carbon’s nature is partly created by the layup – how the fibres are arranged – and partly by the fibres themselves. We use four types at Lapierre, and we know how to get the best of each one. High Resistance fibre is great for absorption and damping – something you may want in seatposts, seatstays or entire frames – while Very High Modulus is very stiff for pedalling efficiency. Yet that ‘Very High Modulus’ tag is no joke. It’s incredibly stiff. It’s so stiff, in fact, only the Xelius road racer can use it. The Pulsium, Aircode and even the Aerostorm DRS don’t use anything beyond the already very stiff High Modulus, because rider fatigue is a higher priority for them. Elsewhere, the new Cross Carbon is entirely created from High Resistance fibres, for maximum compliance, traction and strength.

Road Technology (Racing improves the breed)

TEAM FDJ (FRANCAISE DES JEUX), SPONSORED BY THE FRENCH NATIONAL LOTTERY, HAS PARTNERED WITH LAPIERRE FOR 15 YEARS.
It’s brought success. This year Arnaud Demare took the first French win at Milan-San Remo in over 20 years, while Team FDJ took its first TT victory in a similar period with the brand new Aerostorm DRS. Such outstanding results only bolster recent wins in the world’s biggest races – including l’Alpe d’Huez on the Tour de France, and stages of the Vuelta a Espana and Giro d’Italia – in demonstrating their strength. There’s depth to that strength, too. Team FDJ has dominated the hard-fought world of Cyclo Cross, taking the French Championships no fewer than eight times.
FDJ is heavily involved in the development of all our carbon road bikes. Our engineers are regular fixtures at test sessions, pushing development with testers, technicians and riders. And with those riders including Thibaut Pinot – one of the top five in the world – you can bet Team FDJ keeps our engineers busy. Really busy.
Because it’s true. Racing improves the breed.

MTB Technology (Wheels & Tyres)

In mountain biking standards are constantly changing and improving. We test every new standard in order to decide which we think will add something extra to the ride experience.
29” tyres are on our XC models. Best for rollover and momentum.27.5” tyres are on most of our range. Best for acceleration and agility.
With 27.5” and 29” tyres now standard, the new emerging trend is plus tyres. Our tests were conclusive. The 27.5”plus tyres offer an entirely new riding experience, with improved traction, braking performance, and stability. Skilled riders will find them fun and capable; whilst for rookies they offer the ultimate in control, traction and above all, confidence building capabilities. The extra security plus tyres provide immediately helps put at ease more nervous riders. If you want to tame those pesky obstacles and smooth out a bumpy ride, look no further. You’ll find them on our Edge + and various Overvolt models.
27.5 + READY in our new innovation. For maximum versatility, each Overvolt AM can be mounted with plus format wheels (2.7 – 3.0 tyres) by simply changing the rear hangers of the bike. These rear hangers, as well as the Lapierre 27.5“+ e-bike wheels are available for sale.

MTB Technlogy (Suspension)

EI Shock auto is the Lapierre’s revolutionary electronic shock. Thanks to sensors that measure and evaluate ground conditions and pedalling, your rear shock is always in the correct position and you can concentrate on your riding. A discrete interface is placed on the side of the stem and the compact battery is on the downtube. Designed to simplify your ride.
Our OST+ suspension is based on virtual pivot point kinematics. How does it works? The bob effect caused by pedalling is continually countered by the force applied by the chain. Its exceptional performances both downhill, with excellent comfort; and uphill, with its unrivalled efficiency, make it the new benchmark.

Mountain Bike

Lapierre was one of the first European companies to embrace mountain biking in the 80s, and quickly became the leader, in France. Mountain biking has not stood still since. While we’ve made bikes for World Cups and World Champions, our main aim is to make bikes for the regular rider, who heads out whether anyone’s watching or not.
Our bikes help with those little victories: cleaning a techy bit of singletrack or a tough climb; or simply the challenge of still fitting in the weekly ride around everything else. Lapierre mountain bikes are there to help you get maximum enjoyment.
